A New Era for the Trojans
East Jackson High School is preparing for its first full varsity football campaign in 2026 after a season that was largely junior varsity the year before. The move marks a significant step for the program, as the Trojans will now compete in the Big 8 Conference and face a schedule that includes nine varsity games, all slated to start at 7 PM.
Josh Kubiak, who previously served as head coach at Columbia Central and offensive coordinator at Western, has been appointed head coach and athletic director. In his dual role, Kubiak will shape both the on‑field strategy and the broader athletic program, bringing a blend of head‑coaching experience and offensive expertise to the Trojans.
Building Around Key Players
The offensive core will revolve around running backs Lucas Richardson and Noah Bean, whose speed and athleticism are expected to drive the ground game. Quarterback Jayson Lovett will direct the attack, supported by receiving threats Landin Hendricks and Ayden Crandell. Kubiak has indicated that the offense will reflect the schemes that proved effective during his tenure at Western, tailoring it to the strengths of the current roster.
On the defensive side, Ray Howland returns as defensive coordinator. With a background as an assistant at Onsted and prior work at Columbia Central, Howland will implement a versatile defensive approach that allows quick adjustments and flexible player roles, aiming to keep opponents guessing.
Season Outlook and Community Impact
The Trojans open the season on August 28 against Reading, then travel to face Quincy, Vermontville Maple Valley, Stockbridge, Springport, Union City, Vestaburg, Homer, and Bronson. Each matchup is scheduled for a 7 PM kickoff, creating a packed slate that promises excitement across the region. Kubiak has emphasized that moving to varsity football is more than a schedule change; it is a life‑changing experience for the student‑athletes, offering greater visibility, competition, and personal growth.
Community members and alumni are rallying behind the team, anticipating a season that could redefine East Jackson’s football tradition. With a blend of experienced coaching, a talented roster, and a challenging schedule, the Trojans are poised to make a strong impression in their inaugural varsity season.
