Community volunteers step in
The Brownsville Youth Soccer Association had been gearing up for its fall season, scheduled to kick off on September 12, 2026, at Patsy Hillman Park in Luzerne Township.
But earlier this month, three of the park’s fields were marred by deep tire tracks left by all‑terrain vehicles, a discovery made by association president Rob Miele, who alerted park officials and local police.
Miele described the scene as “tire tracks gouging the grass and soil,” noting that the damage was captured on video and shared online, drawing attention from residents who quickly offered to help.
In response, neighbors and parents organized a volunteer effort to repaint the affected areas, reposition goalposts and assess the fields’ usability, determined to have the pitches ready for the planned start date.
While Luzerne Township police have been notified and are investigating the incident, no arrests have been reported yet, and officials have yet to release details about possible suspects or motives.
Despite the setback, the association remains confident that the repairs will be completed in time, allowing the season to proceed as scheduled and preserving the community’s long‑standing tradition of youth soccer.
