A New Chapter for the Maroons
Dave DeBoer, who guided the Holland Christian boys varsity soccer program to a 2022 state championship with a record of 197 wins, 42 losses and 30 ties, announced his departure earlier this week. Under his leadership the Maroons captured five conference titles, six district crowns and two regional championships, establishing themselves as a perennial powerhouse in Michigan high school soccer.
The school quickly turned to Lito Wagenveld, an assistant and junior‑varsity coach who has been part of the program for several seasons. Wagenveld expressed that the opportunity feels like an "immense privilege" and that he is eager to continue the Maroons’ tradition of togetherness, fighting spirit and belief that has defined the team for years.
Preserving a Winning Ethos
Wagenveld emphasized that the program’s success is rooted not only in tactics but in a culture of collective effort and resilience. He plans to build on the foundation laid by DeBoer, maintaining the same competitive standards while fostering the same sense of unity that has made the Maroons a fixture in state tournaments.
Community members and players alike have voiced confidence that Wagenveld’s deep familiarity with the squad will ensure a smooth transition. The expectation is that the team will continue to compete at a high level, preserving the legacy of excellence that has characterized Holland Christian soccer for over a decade.
