2026 ODAC Preseason Outlook
Washington and Lee University’s field hockey program has been placed second in the 2026 Old Dominion Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll, earning 56 points behind defending champion Lynchburg.
The poll, released on Monday by the ODAC, highlighted Lynchburg’s dominance with 63 points and seven first‑place votes, while the Generals received a strong endorsement from coaches across the league.
Coach Gina Wills, now in her twelfth season at the helm, brings a 71‑16 record in ODAC play and a 137‑62 overall mark, underscoring the stability and winning culture she has cultivated.
Returning offensive standouts Margaret Scheurer and Madeline Lancione are expected to anchor the attack; Scheurer tallied 11 goals and 26 points last year, while Lancione earned First Team All‑ODAC and All‑Region VI honors.
The Generals’ 2025 campaign closed at 14‑5 overall and 7‑1 in conference, outscoring opponents 61‑22 and averaging 3.21 goals per game.
A demanding 2026 schedule awaits, featuring home matchups against Christopher Newport, Johns Hopkins, Mary Washington and Rowan, as well as road contests at Dickinson, Catholic, St. Mary’s, Roanoke, Eastern Mennonite, Sweet Briar, Bridgewater, Randolph‑Macon and a rematch with Lynchburg.
All home games will be streamed live on FloCollege through the platform’s partnership with FloSports, with on‑demand replays available after each broadcast.
Team captains Elaina Bellone, Margaret Cover and Zoe Dolfis return, with Bellone also recognized for her academic leadership and community service.
The postseason will see the ODAC Tournament run from November 3‑7, followed by the NCAA Division III Championship in Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where semifinals and the title game are slated for November 20‑22.
Adding to the coaching staff, Emily Ehrensbeck joins as an assistant coach, bringing experience from Washington College and a background in academic advising.
With a blend of seasoned leadership, high‑impact talent and a rigorous schedule, the Generals are poised to contend for another ODAC title and make a deep run in the national tournament.
