A New Chapter for a Veteran Defenseman
Ryan Pulock, a 636‑game NHL veteran, is entering his first full season as a father. The birth of his son Ryder on September 1, 2025 marked the start of a summer unlike any other, as he spent the months on Long Island bonding with local teammates and immersing himself in family life.
Pulock’s offseason took a decisive turn when he underwent shoulder surgery, placing him in the rehab phase as the Islanders gear up for the 2026‑27 campaign. Last season he posted 27 points — three goals and 24 assists — while leading the team with 148 blocked shots, a performance that also extended his franchise record to 1,201 blocked shots since the NHL began tracking the stat in 2005‑06.
The blue‑line stalwart was also front and centre during the Islanders’ third‑jersey selection process. Input from his family helped shape the design, and Pulock praised the collaborative effort that produced a jersey he believes reflects the club’s identity.
Camp promises to be a lively affair, with Pulock noting that the team’s camaraderie will be stronger than ever. He highlighted the chemistry he shares with defensive partner Matthew Schaefer, a relationship that could prove pivotal on the ice this coming season.
Looking ahead, Pulock says his primary goal is to contribute to the Islanders’ success. Rather than chasing personal milestones, he is focused on helping the club compete and on being ready when the puck drops in October.
