Stony Brook University's men's soccer team opened its 2026 campaign with a 1-1 stalemate against Sacred Heart University on Monday night, extending the Seawolves' unbeaten start to two games.
Early Lead and Equalizer
The match began with Sacred Heart striking first, as a goal in the second minute put the visitors ahead, but Stony Brook answered before the break when Alex Fleury tucked home an equalizer in the 45th minute.
Fleury's strike, his first of the season, came after a flurry of early chances that saw the Seawolves outshoot their opponents in the opening half, finishing with six attempts and a corner kick.
Second-Half Surge
The second half belonged to Stony Brook, which dominated possession and outshot Sacred Heart 12-6 while earning eight corner kicks to just two. Goalkeeper Heidar Hermannsson made two crucial saves, including a pivotal stop in the 73rd minute, while Sacred Heart's Anthony Suarez turned away three shots in the latter stage.
Midfielders Ryan Farr and Finlay Oliver contributed heavily to the attack, combining for nine shots and several on-target efforts, underscoring the team's offensive depth.
Looking ahead, the Seawolves are set to host Hofstra on August 29 at LaValle Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game will mark the next test for a squad that has already shown resilience in its first two outings.
