At 7‑foot‑2, Cherif Millogo towers over most of his peers, but his story begins far from the hardwood courts of Southern California.
A Mentor’s Path
The tall center first chased a soccer ball on the dusty fields of Burkina Faso, only to pivot to basketball at age 13 after being captivated by highlight reels of Kevin Durant. A chance encounter at a camp in Togo introduced him to former UCLA star Luc Mbah a Moute, who would later become his mentor and agent, guiding Millogo onto the roster at St. Francis High School in La Cañada Flintridge.
Since arriving in California, Millogo has drawn scholarship offers from powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Arizona, BYU and, in late May, a coveted spot from Kentucky, joining just 22 players in the 2027 class with a UK commitment. Coaches praise his smooth three‑point shot, ball‑handling flair and versatility on both ends of the floor, while his resilience shines through a history of ankle and knee surgeries that have only strengthened his resolve.
Beyond the statistics, Millogo’s multicultural background — speaking English, French and several African dialects — adds a unique dimension to his identity. As he looks toward the next season, the young prospect remains focused on honing his craft, embodying the quiet determination that has defined his rise from a foreign campus to the national spotlight.
