A Fifth‑Year Boost for LSU Defense
Zxavian Harris spent four seasons at Ole Miss, where he emerged as a key starter under head coach Lane Kiffin. In his final year he logged 58 tackles and three sacks, establishing himself as a disruptive force on the defensive line.
A recent Louisiana court ruling granted Harris an additional year of eligibility, allowing him to extend his college career beyond the typical four‑year limit. The decision directly addressed the constraints placed on the class of 2022, giving Harris the opportunity to return for a fifth season.
After going undrafted, Harris signed with the New Orleans Saints but was waived on August 8. The extra year of eligibility, combined with his proven collegiate performance, made a return to the SEC an attractive option, leading him to commit to LSU.
Recruited as a four‑star prospect and ranked among the top 200 players nationally, Harris becomes the second LSU player to sign an NFL contract after Dae'Quan Wright. His addition is expected to strengthen the Tigers' front line and elevate the defense for the upcoming season.
LSU’s coaching staff highlighted Harris’s experience and leadership, noting that his time at Ole Miss under Kiffin provided a solid foundation for transitioning to the Tigers’ scheme. Fans anticipate that his presence will help the team compete more aggressively in the SEC.
