Matt Jordan announced his resignation as head coach of the San Marcos High School boys basketball team after completing two seasons that delivered a combined 43‑15 record. The decision comes as the school begins the process of identifying a new head coach to lead the program forward.
During his tenure, Jordan steered the team to a 21‑8 finish in the 2024‑25 season, securing second place in the Channel League, and followed that with a 22‑7 record and another second‑place finish in the 2025‑26 campaign. The team also advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Playoffs, opening with a 69‑51 win over Calabasas before falling 51‑69 to Rancho Verde in the second round.
A Record of Consistency
Jordan’s two‑year stretch was marked by steady improvement and competitive play, underscoring his ability to develop talent and maintain a high level of performance against strong league opponents. His teams consistently positioned themselves among the league’s elite, reflecting a culture of discipline and execution he cultivated on the court.
Principal Dare Holdren expressed deep appreciation for Jordan’s contributions, highlighting the coach’s impact on both the athletic and personal development of the student‑athletes. "We are grateful for the dedication Matt has shown to our basketball program," Holdren said, adding that the school will now rely on the existing coaching staff while a national search for a new head coach gets underway.
With the head coaching position now open, San Marcos High School will conduct a thorough evaluation to find a successor who can build on the foundation Jordan established. In the interim, the program remains under the guidance of its coaching staff, ensuring continuity as the school moves toward its next chapter.
