Season Opener Set for Minutewomen
The University of Massachusetts Amherst’s field hockey program enters the 2024 campaign with a preseason ranking of 15th in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll, reflecting a steady rise after a strong finish that included a national semifinal appearance in 2024.
A core group of veterans returns, highlighted by top scorers Emily Barrett and Fiene Jenniskens, who combined for 35 points last season. Their presence adds depth and experience as the team looks to build on recent success.
The season will open with a neutral‑site showdown against No. 8 Liberty on Saturday, followed by a Sunday match at the University of Maine’s home field. Both games are scheduled for noon and will feature live statistics and a streaming broadcast.
Preseason poll opponents also include Harvard, Miami (OH) and UConn, all of whom will provide stiff competition as the Minutewomen aim to climb higher in the rankings.
Coaching staff emphasized continuity, noting that nine of the top twelve players from the previous season are back, giving the squad a solid foundation as they navigate the early schedule.
