Norwin High School’s girls’ soccer program has established itself as a force in Western Pennsylvania, capturing the Section 1 championship last season and advancing to the WPIAL semifinals with a 15‑4 record that featured 74 goals scored and just 11 conceded.
New Venues, Same Determination
Central to that success is a core group of eight returning players, among them seniors Siena Ali and Ava Usko, juniors Neeve Graham and Neilah Schade, and sophomores Leesia Phetsomphou and Mackenzie Carpenter, who together provide a blend of experience and emerging talent.
Because of construction delays at their traditional home field, the team will host matches at East Allegheny, Yough and Jeannette this year, a logistical shift that has not dampened the squad’s confidence.
Coach Ashley DeVito has repeatedly emphasized a culture built on winning, camaraderie and a relentless focus on defined objectives, regardless of the venue.
The upcoming Section 1 alignment sees traditional rivals Latrobe and Penn‑Trafford moving down to Class 3A, while Fox Chapel joins as a top‑tier opponent, promising fresh matchups and heightened competition.
Having reached the quarterfinals two years ago and the final four last season, the team’s goal is to repeat that deep playoff run, a target that aligns with the program’s broader ambition of sustained excellence.
The PIAA championships will be staged at F.N.B. Stadium in Pittsburgh on November 20‑21, offering the Norwin players a chance to showcase their skills on a state‑wide stage.
