A milestone for the Argonauts
The University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts will open their much‑anticipated Division I campaign against the Florida State Seminoles on November 29 at the Pensacola Bay Center, marking the program’s first game against a Power 4 opponent as it moves into Division I.
The contest is part of the Pensacola Hardwood Series, a three‑game showcase that also includes an exhibition matchup between Florida State and Mississippi State on Oct. 10, highlighting Pensacola’s growing basketball pedigree.
UWF athletic director Dave Scott said he is thrilled to pit the Argonauts against a Power 4 program, noting that the contest provides a rare platform for the university to reach a broader audience.
Florida State head coach Luke Loucks, whose team finished 18‑15 in his first season, highlighted the personal significance of returning to Pensacola, where his wife hails from Gulf Breeze, and expressed confidence that the Seminoles will bring intensity to the contest.
The Argonauts’ non‑conference slate also includes games against Florida International University, Baptist College of Florida, South Florida, Pensacola Christian College, South Alabama, Navy, Alabama State, West Georgia, and North Alabama, a schedule designed to test the team early and build momentum for the transition to Division I.
Community leaders and local fans alike are eager to see how the Argonauts will perform on the larger stage, with many hoping the matchup will inspire future recruits and boost support for the program’s upward trajectory.
