A New Leadership Era for Austin FC
Austin FC announced on Thursday that Khaled El‑Ahmad will assume the role of Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director, consolidating the club’s soccer leadership under a single, seasoned executive. The appointment underscores the club’s intent to strengthen its sporting infrastructure as it aims for sustained competitiveness in MLS.
El‑Ahmad arrives with more than twenty years of experience spanning Major League Soccer, European football and the City Football Group. Most recently, he served as Chief Soccer Officer at Minnesota United FC, where he oversaw roster construction, scouting, recruitment and player development, helping the team reach the MLS Cup Playoffs.
In his new position, El‑Ahmad will report to CEO Andy Loughnane and lead a sporting leadership team that includes Andrew DiLallo, Dean Costalas and Ethan Finlay. He will also guide the appointment of head coach Jim Curtin, who is slated to take charge after the 2026 MLS season, ensuring a seamless transition in the technical staff.
El‑Ahmad’s leadership philosophy centers on collaboration, data‑driven decision‑making and the creation of a sustainable soccer organization. He believes that a well‑structured pathway from the Academy to the First Team, combined with strategic recruitment and player development, will position Austin FC for long‑term success on and off the pitch.
Club chairman Anthony Precourt praised El‑Ahmad’s global perspective and his vision for modernizing the club’s soccer operations. "Khaled’s extensive experience across multiple football ecosystems aligns perfectly with our ambition to build a competitive and forward‑thinking organization," Precourt said in the announcement.
Born in Lebanon and raised in Sweden, El‑Ahmad has worked in the United States, Scandinavia and England, giving him a truly international outlook. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing, an MBA in international business and a Sports Management Leadership Diploma, credentials that reflect his blend of business acumen and football expertise.
