Pacific University’s baseball program has unveiled a sweeping overhaul for the 2027 season, announcing a total of 29 new players who will join the roster.
The incoming class comprises 24 transfers and five freshmen, a mix that the coaching staff believes will instantly elevate both the talent level and the cultural fabric of the team.
Among the most anticipated additions are veteran transfers Matthew Canizares and Matthew Jackson, both former standouts at Stony Brook University. Canizares brings a solid track record of 22.1 innings pitched, while Jackson posted a .270 batting average across 45 games last season.
The roster also welcomes a host of other experienced players, including Kenan Elarton, who honed his skills under head coach Toby DeMello at Houston Christian and Arizona, and Nate Criswell, a recent Men’s College World Series participant from Troy.
Further additions such as Tyler Vargas, Finn Chapman, and Caden Sramek bring a blend of pitching depth and offensive versatility, while Alex Pearson, a left‑handed first baseman and outfielder from Washington, adds another layer of flexibility.
A fresh infusion of youth
Five high‑school prospects — Nick Schikore, Jacob Vines, Riley Lim, Dom Caruso and Zach Tchejeyan — are slated to arrive with a focus on defensive contributions, promising to shore up the team’s back end.
Head coach Toby DeMello expressed enthusiasm about the group’s potential, noting that the blend of seasoned transfers and promising newcomers creates a unique opportunity to raise the program’s standards both on and off the field.
With a schedule that will test the new roster against top competition, the Tigers hope the added depth and experience will translate into stronger performances and a more competitive edge in the upcoming season.
