Badin High School captured its first regional flag football championship on Saturday, routing St. Ursula 46‑13 in a game that marked a historic milestone for the program. The victory not only secured the top seed from the south in the inaugural OHSAA state championship tournament but also underscored the Rams' rapid ascent in a sport that is gaining traction across Ohio.
Senior receiver Addi Marshall was named offensive MVP despite playing through a foot injury. Her performance was all the more impressive given that she only began playing flag football this season, relying on a background in soccer and basketball to bring toughness and agility to the field.
The Rams' path to the title included a hard‑fought win over Walnut Hills in the quarterfinals and an upset of top‑seed Mount Notre Dame in the semifinals. Alongside Badin, St. Ursula, Princeton and Mount Notre Dame will now advance to the state quarterfinals, where they will meet teams from the Cleveland Browns regional.
Coach Mike Sebastian’s Pride
Head coach Mike Sebastian expressed deep pride in his team's resilience and chemistry, noting that the championship reflects months of relentless effort and a willingness to push through adversity. 'This group has shown what happens when you combine talent with heart,' he said, highlighting the program's bright future.
With the state title game looming in Canton, Marshall said the experience of competing in the inaugural tournament adds extra motivation. 'Playing in front of a crowd in Canton is something I've dreamed about,' she added, as the Rams prepare to chase the ultimate prize in Ohio high school sports.
