The University of Pennsylvania's women's basketball program has unveiled a pair of impactful transfers who are expected to reshape its outlook for the coming season.
A Dual Threat in the Paint and Beyond
Candice Lienafa, a forward hailing from Quebec, Canada, arrives after a standout collegiate career that blended scoring, rebounding and defensive intensity. Her journey from Champlain College Saint‑Lambert to Davidson College was marked by preseason all‑conference honors, a Rookie of the Week award twice, and a place on the A‑10 All‑Rookie Team.
At Davidson, Lienafa posted career averages of 4.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting efficiently from the field and the free‑throw line. Her accolades include two provincial championships, a bronze medal at Canadian Nationals and MVP honors in the playoffs, underscoring a track record of success at the highest levels of Canadian university basketball.
Sharpshooter from the Northeast
Christina Pham, a guard from Boston, Massachusetts, brings a different set of strengths to the roster. Known for her elite three‑point shooting, Pham drained 42 triples at Fairfield University with a 37.5 percent conversion rate, complementing her 5.1 points per game average.
Pham's high school pedigree includes three NEPSAC titles, three years as team captain and the 2024‑25 Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year, reflecting both leadership and elite performance on the court.
Coach McLaughlin's Vision
Head coach Mike McLaughlin expressed enthusiasm for the new additions, highlighting Lienafa's high energy and competitive spirit alongside Pham's shooting versatility. "We’re excited to integrate Candice and Christina into a program that values both academic excellence and athletic ambition," McLaughlin said in the announcement.
Both athletes cited the University of Pennsylvania's blend of rigorous academics and storied basketball tradition as key factors in their decision, aiming to contribute to the program's continued rise in national competitions.
Looking Forward
The coaching staff believes the new roster pieces will enhance the team's depth and provide fresh dynamics against conference rivals. As the season progresses, the impact of Lienafa's inside presence and Pham's perimeter shooting will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.
