Local product from Eagle, Idaho, joins ECHL affiliate after collegiate stint with Army and Sacred Heart

The Idaho Steelheads have announced the addition of 25‑year‑old defenseman John Driscoll to their roster for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, cementing a local connection that fans have been eager to see.

A Homegrown Defender Returns to the Gem

Born and raised in Eagle, Idaho, Driscoll brings a blend of collegiate experience and professional grit to the ECHL franchise, offering a familiar face to the community that has long supported the team.

After four years at the collegiate level, he honed his defensive skills with the Army Black Knights and the Sacred Heart Pioneers, posting 33 points in 68 games with Army and 21 points in 79 appearances for Sacred Heart.

Before college, Driscoll spent four seasons in the United States Hockey League, racking up 43 points across 204 games for the Central Illinois Flying Aces, Des Moines Buccaneers and Green Bay Gamblers.

His consistent point production — 74 points in 277 USHL games — signaled a readiness for the next step, and the Steelheads see him as a valuable asset as they aim to contend for the Kelly Cup.

The organization also highlighted that the Steelheads are an ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars, a relationship that could provide additional development pathways for players like Driscoll.
