San Diego’s men’s soccer program has reached a milestone, climbing to No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s Top 25 – the highest ranking in the program’s history.
The Toreros jumped from No. 18 to No. 2, gaining 16 spots in the poll, and earned 192 points, trailing only Stanford, which received all first‑place votes.
Their ascent follows two convincing victories: a 2‑1 win over Washington and a 3‑1 home triumph against Liberty, results that propelled the team into the national conversation.
Forward Steven Ramirez was a driving force, earning WCC Offensive Player of the Week after assisting the opening goal against Washington and scoring twice against Liberty.
A Historic Rise
The program’s previous best placement was No. 3, achieved on November 5, 2024, but the current surge eclipses that mark, positioning the Toreros as a new power in West Coast soccer.
The momentum will be tested on Thursday, when San Diego travels to Stanford for a 4 p.m. kickoff that will be streamed on ESPN+, a matchup that pits the nation’s top two teams against each other.
