A Milestone Return to Coronado
NASCAR will stage its Cup and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series events at Naval Base Coronado in August 2027, marking the second consecutive year the series has raced on the Southern California installation. The date of August 1 places the race at the center of the In‑Season Challenge, a five‑race midseason tournament that awards a $1 million prize to the champion.
The 2027 Coronado weekend will feature the Anduril 250, a race that saw Corey Heim claim his first career Cup victory on June 21. Heim’s win underscored the growing competitiveness of the event and reinforced NASCAR’s confidence in the base as a racing venue.
Expanding the Military Calendar
Building on the positive reception from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during the inaugural Coronado race, NASCAR plans to add more events at U.S. military installations beginning in 2028. The initiative reflects a broader strategy to bring the sport to iconic, high‑visibility sites that attract both service members and civilian fans.
Alongside the continued presence at Coronado, the Craftsman Truck Series will relocate its traditional stop at the base to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Clarington, Ontario, with a September date on the schedule. The move is part of NASCAR’s effort to diversify its calendar while maintaining a strong connection to both domestic and international audiences.
Looking Ahead to New Frontiers
NASCAR’s leadership says the expansion is driven by a desire to explore markets and installations that show growth potential and existing fan interest. By leveraging the unique appeal of defense locations, the series hopes to deepen its relationship with the military community and create new opportunities for sponsorship and engagement.
