Villanova University has unveiled its non‑conference basketball slate for the 2026‑27 campaign, a schedule that kicks off with an unprecedented trip to Europe and then returns to the familiar rhythms of Philadelphia basketball.
A transatlantic opening
The Wildcats will open the season on Sunday, November 1, at the Eternal City Tip‑Off in Rome, facing Notre Dame in what promises to be a showcase of early‑season form. The game marks the first time Villanova will begin a campaign on foreign soil, and it will be followed by a series of high‑profile road tests against Michigan, Kansas and other national powers.
Back on campus, the team will host a string of marquee matchups that highlight the traditional rivalries of the city. La Salle meets Villanova on Tuesday, November 10, and Temple will visit on Tuesday, December 1, renewing the Philadelphia Big Five classic. The Big Five Classic itself is slated for Saturday, December 5, at the Xfinity Mobile Arena, where the Wildcats will look to cement their presence in the local basketball conversation.
Exhibition grind and home‑court fixtures
Before the regular season fully ignites, Villanova will stage three exhibition contests at Finneran Pavilion against Rutgers (October 11), George Mason (October 17) and Virginia (October 22). The home schedule then continues with a showdown against Wisconsin on Saturday, December 12, part of the Philly Hoops Showdown, and a later clash with Coppin State on November 24.
