Fall Scrimmage Set for October 16 at Segra Park
The Columbia Fireflies will stage their first ever exhibition game at Segra Park on October 16, facing the College of Charleston in a 6:30 p.m. showdown. Gates will open an hour early, giving fans a chance to soak in the atmosphere before the first pitch.
Ticket prices start at $15 and can be purchased through the Fireflies’ official website. A portion of every sale will be directed to Camp Cole, a community camp that provides recreation and support for children battling serious health challenges.
The scrimmage is part of NCAA regulations that permit teams to conduct up to 27 practice sessions between September and October, including four exhibition matches. It offers a rare glimpse of both squads before the 2027 season kicks off, building anticipation among local baseball enthusiasts.
Brad Shank, President of the Columbia Fireflies, expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the dual purpose of entertaining fans and giving back to the community. “We’re excited to bring top‑level baseball to Segra Park and to support Camp Cole through this fundraiser,” Shank said.
Beyond the on‑field action, the game underscores the growing partnership between collegiate programs and community charities. By leveraging NCAA’s fall‑practice allowances, the Fireflies are able to schedule meaningful contests that benefit local causes while sharpening their roster for the upcoming campaign.
