Ball State University has unveiled a major addition to its baseball program, confirming 19 incoming transfers for the 2027 season. The move is part of a deliberate effort to reinforce the pitching staff, bolster the middle infield and add proven hitters to the lineup.
A Strategic Overhaul for the 2027 Season
The coaching staff outlined a clear vision: fill gaps in the rotation, increase offensive production and create internal competition that will push every player to elevate their game. By focusing on experienced transfers, the program hopes to translate summer performance into immediate impact on the collegiate stage.
Among the newcomers, catcher Avery Anderson arrives from South Florida State College, where he posted a .323/.425/.492 slash line and led his team with 15 doubles. His right‑handed hitting and defensive reliability are expected to add stability behind the plate.
Infielder Blake Bowen, a graduate of Akron, brings a .291 career average and 13 doubles, earning At‑Large Second Team All‑MAC honors and a spot on the All‑MAC Defensive Team. His versatility in the middle of the field should provide the Cardinals with a reliable option at several positions.
Also joining the roster is two‑way standout Brady Bowen from the same university, who was recognized on multiple All‑America Teams after a 2026 season that saw him hit .391 and post a 4.73 ERA as a pitcher. His dual‑role capability offers the staff flexibility in both batting and mound work.
Pitcher Easton Boyte, a right‑hander from Mississippi, went 4‑0 with a 4.20 ERA and 36 strikeouts last summer, showcasing a promising mix of control and poise. His addition deepens a rotation that already features Eli Driskell, the ACCC Pitcher of the Year, who logged a 3.48 ERA and 69 strikeouts across 72.1 innings.
Other notable arms include Alex Dues, who topped the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League in wins, saves and appearances with a 2.11 ERA, and Charlie Dieruf, a Cincinnati transfer who struck out three batters in just 3.1 innings after moving from Miami (Ohio). The staff also welcomes Hudson Groh, a First Team All‑Conference pitcher from California, and Owen Hendry, a Coastal Plain League All Star with a 5.19 ERA.
The offensive side of the transfer class is equally impressive. Parker Burt, a catcher from Regis University, slashed .364/.431/.511 in 2026 and led the West Coast League All‑Stars with 11 doubles and five homers. Nathaniel Hurley, a switch‑hitting infielder from California, posted a .381/.506/.698 line and added 16 doubles and nine home runs, while Ryan Fluharty from West Virginia delivered a .385/.456/.621 slash and earned Second Team All‑Atlantic Region honors.
With a blend of seasoned veterans and high‑upside newcomers, Ball State’s 2027 squad appears poised to compete at a higher level. The depth created by these transfers not only addresses past weaknesses but also sets the stage for a dynamic season where internal competition could reshape the team’s identity.
