Thursday night the Longwood women's soccer team will travel to Lexington, Virginia, to meet VMI at Patchin Field, kicking off at 4 p.m. The match marks the latest chapter in a series that has seen the Lancers unbeaten against the Keydets for more than a decade.
A historic edge over VMI
Longwood has posted a 14‑1‑0 record in 15 meetings since 2003, outscoring the opposition 48‑7 and averaging just over three goals per game. That dominance dates back to the program’s early years and continues to shape the team’s confidence heading into each encounter.
A week earlier the squad opened its campaign with a 3‑0 win over American University, a result highlighted by a 30th‑minute strike from Peyton Curney and a 60th‑minute finish by McKenna Vogel, followed by Madison Fitzpatrick’s third‑half goal that sealed the victory.
Head coach Todd Dyer, who has guided the program since its inception in 1994, will rely on a roster that includes preseason standouts such as Sam Fischer, the Big South Forward of the Year, and Berni Wayland, who earned Defensive Player of the Week after limiting American to two shots.
