The Big Ten Conference on Tuesday unveiled the full slate of matchups that will shape Rutgers’ men’s basketball campaign for the 2026‑27 season, outlining a schedule that blends traditional conference rivalries with a strategic set of non‑conference contests.
Double‑play fixtures
Rutgers will meet Maryland, Penn State and Purdue twice apiece, with each of those opponents hosting the Scarlet Knights and then traveling to Piscataway for a reciprocal game, a format that preserves the classic double‑play rhythm of Big Ten basketball.
In addition to those paired contests, the team is set to play fourteen single‑play games, half at home and half on the road, a balance that reflects the league’s effort to distribute competitive load evenly across the schedule.
The home‑only opponents for the upcoming season include Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin, while the road opponents comprise Indiana, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oregon, Ohio State and Washington.
West Coast integration
The schedule also marks a notable step in the conference’s effort to integrate its West Coast members, as Rutgers will host UCLA and USC while making trips to Oregon and Washington, a move intended to foster regional rivalries and broaden the league’s geographic reach.
Conference officials said the arrangement is designed to maintain competitive balance and ensure an equitable rotation of opponents throughout the year, a goal that aligns with the Big Ten’s broader mission of preserving fairness across its expanding membership.
