A Strategic Move for the Golden Bears
Casey Hill, a veteran assistant coach who spent the last five years with the New Orleans Pelicans, is set to bring his basketball acumen to the University of California, Berkeley, as part of the Golden Bears’ coaching staff for the 2026‑27 season.
Hill’s résumé includes a championship as head coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2015, a stint that capped a 16‑year career that has also seen him guide the Tokyo Apaches, the Agua Caliente Clippers and the Los Angeles Clippers. His journey began in college, where he played for Trinity University and helped the Tigers reach the 2005 Division II Elite Eight.
Mark Madsen, the Golden Bears’ head coach, highlighted Hill’s deep understanding of modern basketball trends and his ability to make in‑game adjustments, calling him a "strategic mind" who will complement the team’s fast‑paced style.
Hill’s family background in coaching adds another layer of basketball heritage. His father, Bob Hill, has coached at the college, NBA and international levels, while his brothers Cameron and Chris lead women’s and high‑school programs respectively, underscoring a multi‑generational commitment to the sport.
The upcoming season will mark Hill’s first foray into collegiate coaching, but his extensive work under NBA stalwarts such as Doc Rivers, Willie Green and Stan Van Gundy has already earned him respect across the league. His appointment signals Cal’s intent to blend proven professional insight with collegiate ambition.
