A Fresh Start in the Mountain East Conference
The Wheeling University women's soccer team will open its 2026 campaign on Thursday evening, hosting Walsh University at 6 p.m. The matchup marks the first official appearance of Jaclyn Ketter as head coach, ushering in what the program calls the Ketter era.
Entering the season, the Cardinals were tabbed sixth in the MEC North Division after earning 18 points from conference coaches. Their 2025 slate ended at 3‑11‑4 overall and 1‑9‑4 in league play, but the team showed defensive grit, limiting opponents to two goals or fewer in 14 of 18 games.
This opener also serves as a laboratory for a revamped goalkeeping corps. New keepers will be tested alongside returning outfield players, offering an early glimpse of how the squad will blend experience with fresh talent.
After the Walsh contest, Wheeling will embark on a three‑game road stretch before returning home to face Frostburg State on September 9. The early schedule promises tough tests, but the coaching staff remains optimistic about building cohesion on the field.
Looking Ahead
The Cardinals hope the season opener will set a tone of resilience and offensive improvement. With a new coaching direction and a roster eager to prove itself, the team aims to climb the MEC North standings and contend for a postseason berth.
