Washington College announced the appointment of Tom Primosch as its new head coach of the men’s basketball program, marking a new chapter for the Eagles in Chestertown, Maryland.
A Coach With a Proven Track Record
Primosch arrives after a four-year tenure at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania, where he served as an assistant and helped orchestrate a defensive overhaul that placed the team among the nation’s top three in that category. Under his guidance, win totals climbed to their highest level since the 2007-08 season, and two players earned all-conference honors, including Mo Toure, who was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year.
His coaching journey also includes an internship with NBA trainer Phil Becker in Phoenix, Arizona, and a season as operations assistant for the University of Portland’s men’s basketball squad during the 2022-23 campaign, experiences that sharpened his analytical and logistical skills.
Education and Leadership Philosophy
A 2021 graduate of Haverford College with a degree in History, Primosch combines academic rigor with a player-first mindset. In a statement, Athletic Director Thad Moore praised the coach’s vision, leadership and ability to foster a supportive culture that emphasizes growth both on and off the court.
Primosch says he wants to build meaningful relationships with student-athletes and create an environment where each player can reach their full potential. He believes that strong community ties and a focus on development will restore pride to the program and lay the foundation for sustained success.
The new coach will join the Eagles’ roster in Chestertown, bringing a blend of tactical insight, recruiting savvy and a commitment to academic excellence.
