Marquette University’s men’s soccer squad will begin its 2026 campaign on the road, heading to DeKalb, Illinois, where it opens against Northern Illinois University on [tomorrow] with a 7 p.m. Central Time kickoff.
The roster has been reshaped dramatically, with fifteen new faces joining the program — four transfers and eleven freshmen accounting for more than half of the team. Among the newcomers, five come from outside the United States, representing Norway, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Brazil, England and Switzerland.
Freshman forward Tomiwa Adewumi, a 6‑foot‑2 standout from Pittsburgh, has already made an impression, scoring in his first two collegiate matches and providing the game‑winning goal in a 2‑0 victory over Saint Mary’s. His early contributions mark him as only the second Marquette freshman in the past twenty years to achieve that feat, following Lukas Sunesson in 2018.
Veterans Mateo Stoka and Mads Konrad Horgøien continue to drive the offense, with Stoka opening the season’s scoring and assisting on the decisive goal in the second game. Both players are tied for second on the team in points, trailing only Adewumi.
A Freshman’s Early Impact
Adewumi’s rapid adaptation to the college game reflects the program’s growing appeal on the international stage, and his performance adds depth to a squad that is eager to maintain its perfect streak heading into conference play.
Under head coach David Korn, the Golden Eagles boast an impressive nonconference pedigree, sitting at 11‑3‑5 overall and going unbeaten in their last ten such contests. Their most recent nonconference defeat came on September 15, 2024, a 2‑0 loss to UIC against ranked opponents Northwestern and Wisconsin.
The team also welcomes back experienced players such as Cameron Simpson, who posted a 1.50 goals‑against average last season, and returning defenders Andreas Fotland and Tristan Rønnestad‑Stevens, who will each see their final year of eligibility.
