Season Kickoff
The Providence College field hockey squad is set to begin its 2026 campaign with a pair of non‑conference contests that pit the Friars against two of New England’s traditional rivals.
On Friday, August 28, the team travels to Newton, Massachusetts, to meet Boston College at 3:00 p.m., and two days later returns home to face Boston University at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30. Both matches will be streamed live on ACCNX and ESPN+, with international viewers able to follow the action through Friars Live.
The series histories add extra intrigue. Boston College holds a 33‑18‑1 edge over Providence, highlighted by a 3‑1 victory in their most recent meeting in 2024. In contrast, the Friars have enjoyed a modest edge over Boston University, having won the last encounter in 2025 by a 3‑2 overtime score, narrowing the all‑time ledger to 23‑13 in Boston University’s favor.
Key Players to Watch
Providence enters the season with senior forwards Bo Martina and Lily Procaccianti leading the scoring chart from a season that ended 8‑9 but showed flashes of offensive spark. Their contributions will be vital as the Friars look to improve on last year’s record.
Boston College brings preseason All‑ACC forward Milou Klein into the mix, alongside top scorer Madelieve Drion, while Boston University’s standout midfielder Caroline O’Brien, the reigning Patriot League MVP, returns after a 2025 campaign that yielded 23 goals.
Between the posts, Providence will rely on sophomore Ava Porter and graduate transfer Pauline Gineste, who previously starred for American University. Boston University’s goalkeeper Sophie Ortyl posted a 2.53 goals‑against average and a .641 save percentage last season, giving the Terriers a solid last line of defense.
Looking ahead, the Friars will also meet New Haven and Bryant University in early September, rounding out a non‑conference slate that promises a blend of competitive matchups and developmental opportunities.
