Texas High School Football: A Decade of Unrivaled Dominance

From Carthage to Westlake, a select group of programs have turned state championships into a tradition of excellence

A Decade of Dominance

Over the last ten years, Texas high school football has produced nearly sixty different state champions, yet the story is defined by a handful of programs that have turned title runs into a ritual of excellence.

Carthage High School stands at the pinnacle with seven championships captured in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025, posting an average margin of 29.1 points per title game.

The Aledo and Gunter Eras

Aledo High School, with six crowns in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023, averages a staggering 33.4 points per victory, while Gunter has celebrated three unbeaten seasons in 2016, 2022 and 2023, underscoring a rare combination of perfection and dominance.

Other Notable Programs

DeSoto, North Shore, Highland Park, Mart, Muenster, South Oak Cliff and Westlake have each added multiple titles to the roll call, with DeSoto’s 15‑0 run in 2023 and Westlake’s 16‑0 campaign in 2021 standing out as particularly dominant performances.

The breadth of success is evident in the fact that only 23 of the 58 champions have repeated, meaning that the majority of titleholders have enjoyed a single, often historic, championship moment.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As the 2026 season looms, the tradition shows no sign of slowing. Teams across the state are already mapping out schedules and training regimens with the goal of joining the exclusive club of programs that have turned state titles into a recurring reality.
