The Michigan Wolverines are gearing up for their first test under head coach Kyle Whiggingham, a September 5 showdown with Western Michigan that will set the tone for the season.
Unresolved Position Battles
Among the most pressing questions are the left tackle spot, the third wide receiver role and the defensive end opposite John Henry Daley, all of which remain unsettled as fall camp winds down.
While the defensive scheme has been fully installed, as Jay Hill confirmed, the offensive system may not be fully operational by the opening week, leaving the team to rely on improvisation early on.
The passing attack is expected to receive a boost from a revamped receiver corps and the new offensive coordinator Jason Beck, a combination that has already shown promise in Bryce Underwood’s development during fall camp.
If the Wolverines can pair that emerging aerial threat with their traditionally elite rushing game, they could become a difficult offense to contain, even against a challenging schedule.
The early results will ultimately determine whether Michigan can exceed preseason expectations and push for a deeper postseason run.
