Rivalry Renewed as Bears Host Huskies
On Thursday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m., the Brown University women's soccer team will open its home schedule against the University of Connecticut at Stevenson‑Pincince Field, with the match streamed live on ESPN+.
Returning star forward Joy Okonye, a two‑time First Team All‑Ivy selection and the 2025 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, headlines a roster that also brings back goalkeepers Addison Etter and Gurleen Toor, both of whom contributed significantly in the previous season.
Brown concluded the 2025 campaign with a 9‑4‑4 record, capturing a berth in the Ivy League Tournament before falling in the semifinals, and will welcome ten newcomers from the Class of 2030, among them Taylor Green and Georgia Steinbach, to bolster the squad.
The Huskies opened the 2026 season with a 1‑0‑2 slate, defeating Boston University and playing to draws against Stony Brook and Rutgers, while the all‑time series stands at 9‑21‑2 in UConn’s favor, though Brown has won the last three meetings, including a 2‑0 victory in 2019, a 5‑0 win in 2021 and a 1‑0 triumph in 2025.
The Bears were ranked third in the preseason Ivy League poll with 98 points, trailing only Princeton and Dartmouth, and will look to translate that optimism into a strong performance against a UConn program that finished the Big East tournament semifinals with an 11‑4‑3 record.
