Braelin Moore, a fifth‑year senior and returning starter on LSU’s offensive line, has been selected to wear the program’s No. 18 jersey, a distinction that places him among a short list of elite linemen.
The No. 18 tradition dates back to 2003, when quarterback Matt Mauck first received the honor, and has since been bestowed upon players who embody the qualities of excellence and responsibility that the number symbolizes.
Moore follows in the footsteps of Lloyd Cushenberry III, the only other offensive lineman to have earned the jersey, and becomes the second in LSU history to do so.
A transfer from Virginia Tech, Moore arrived in Baton Rouge with a reputation for durability and discipline, having started all 13 games in the 2024‑25 season and earning SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors.
His performance was underscored by a remarkable 623 offensive snaps in which he yielded just one sack, while also contributing to a defense that limited opponents to a low yardage total.
Beyond the field, Moore’s academic record reflects the same rigor; he has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll twice, first at Virginia Tech in 2023 and again with LSU in 2024‑25.
The jersey will feature a commemorative patch marking his graduation, and Moore will don the number 61 in regular‑season games, reserving the iconic 18 for special appearances.
The significance of the No. 18 extends beyond statistics; it is displayed in the College Football Hall of Fame and is regarded as one of the three most iconic numbers in LSU history, alongside retired No. 20 and No. 7.
Coach Billy Cannon’s retired No. 20 remains the only number officially retired by the program, a testament to the lasting impact of LSU’s football legends.
