A Kentucky high school football coach has been arrested on a misdemeanor accusation of distributing obscene material to minors.
Phillip Hawkins, who serves as the head coach of the varsity football team at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, was placed on administrative leave by Fayette County Public Schools on August 18 after multiple juvenile students reported receiving explicit images.
The allegations contend that Hawkins sent photographs of a partially unclothed woman to the minors, a conduct that investigators say contravenes state statutes governing the distribution of sexual material to individuals below the age of consent.
Upcoming Arraignment
Hawkins is scheduled to appear in court on September 21 for his arraignment, where prosecutors will present the charges and a judge will decide on the next phase of the legal proceedings.
The case has attracted scrutiny from school officials and community members alike, prompting discussions about the adequacy of safeguarding protocols within athletic programs.
While the investigation continues, the district has reiterated its cooperation with law enforcement and its intention to adopt additional measures designed to prevent future incidents of this nature.
