Stadium High School Tigers Gear Up for 2026 Season

A revamped roster, quarterback battle and tough schedule set the stage for a playoff push

The 2026 season marks a pivotal moment for Stadium High School’s Tigers, who must replace 23 seniors and bring back only five starters from last year’s Class 4A playoff run. Head coach Patrick Johnson, now in his fifth year, will guide a youthful squad that still retains four starting offensive linemen and defensive tackle Kingsten Huston‑McDuffie.

A Revamped Roster

Among the returning talent are senior guard Troy Young, who hopes to add a playoff victory and a high seed to the 4A NPSL standings, and a handful of sophomores who will see increased responsibility in the secondary. The team also welcomes back Aleczander Wilborn at offensive tackle and Maison Barnes at left guard, providing veteran presence on the line.

Quarterback Battle

The biggest question mark is at quarterback, where senior Levi Kirkendall and junior Maddix Mawrence are locked in a competition for the starting role. Both players have shown flashes of promise during preseason practice, and the coaching staff expects the battle to shape the offense’s rhythm.

Adding to the mix, three running backs—Liam Clayton, Marquees Huggins and Dayton Sorn—are expected to shoulder the bulk of the rushing attack after Darius Sum, the previous season’s leading rusher, moved on to Pacific Lutheran University.

A Tough Road Ahead

The Tigers open the season at Timberline on September 4 before facing a slate that includes Olympia, Kennedy Catholic, Kentridge, Auburn Riverside, Tahoma, Mount Rainier and Kentwood. The schedule is among the most competitive in the league, but the coaching staff believes that a strong early showing could set the tone for a deep playoff run.

Patrick Johnson remains confident that the blend of experienced linemen, emerging skill players and a disciplined defensive front will keep the Tigers competitive. If the quarterback position stabilizes and the offense clicks, the team could exceed preseason expectations and contend for a playoff berth.
