The Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) has taken the field for its inaugural season, reviving professional women’s baseball in the United States for the first time in more than seven decades. The league’s four franchises are anchored in Boston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, each bringing a distinct city identity to the competition.
Among the roster of emerging talent is Stephanie Everett, a native of Silver Spring who was selected 69th overall in the league’s inaugural draft and now suits up for the Boston Hunters. Her journey from Montgomery County to the national stage underscores the league’s grassroots outreach and talent identification efforts.
Community Celebration in Silver Spring
To celebrate the launch, Montgomery County Recreation is hosting a public watch party on September 3 at the Good Hope Recreation Center in Silver Spring. The event will stream the opening matchup between New York and Los Angeles, beginning at 6 p.m., and invites local fans to experience the excitement together.
The gathering reflects a broader push to embed women’s sports within community life, offering a space for families, youth leagues and enthusiasts to connect. Organizers say the watch party is part of a series of events aimed at building a sustainable fan base for the WPBL across the country.
