Road Test in Kalamazoo
The Colorado Buffaloes women's soccer team enters the 2026 season with a perfect home record, having opened with three straight victories. Their next test will be a road trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where they will meet Western Michigan on August 27 at 2 p.m.
The Buffaloes' latest triumph came against Cal State Fullerton, a 3‑2 win that showcased a potent attack. Michaela McGowan, Ruby Hayward and captain Reagan Kotschau found the net, while the midfield generated 22 shots, far outpacing the nine taken by their opponents. Goalkeeper Brooke Goerish made three key saves in the second half, preserving the lead.
Kotschau, who now shares goalkeeping duties with Jamie Campbell, leads the squad with seven points and is tied for the team lead in goals with McGowan. The duo's chemistry has become a cornerstone of the side's early success.
Western Michigan arrives as a formidable opponent. The Broncos captured the Mid‑American Conference title in 2025 and sit atop the 2026 Preseason Coaches Poll. After opening the season with a win over Hawaii and a draw with Idaho, they bring a disciplined defensive shape and a balanced attack.
Coach Danny Sanchez, who has overseen a healthier roster than a year ago, expressed confidence that the team is ready for the challenges ahead. He highlighted the importance of the upcoming games in shaping the club's identity and preparing for a later matchup with Michigan State in the Great Lakes region.
