A Century of Basketball at The Palestra
Temple University’s men’s basketball team will celebrate its 100th anniversary during the 2026‑27 season by staging two marquee games at The Palestra in Philadelphia. The Owls are set to host Richmond on November 8 and St. Bonaventure on December 12, turning the historic arena into the centerpiece of a year‑long celebration.
The Palestra, an iconic venue in college basketball history, has been the stage for countless memorable moments in Philadelphia sports. Temple’s all‑time record at the site stands at 280‑143, reflecting a winning tradition that dates back decades. The upcoming matchups will add another chapter, pitting the Owls against longtime conference rivals whose series histories are deeply intertwined with the university’s own.
Season‑ticket holders will enjoy an early presale beginning September 16, granting them priority access to the limited slate of games. A public sale will follow on September 22, ensuring that fans across the city can secure seats to witness the centennial celebrations in person.
Adam Fisher, senior associate athletic director at Temple, emphasized the significance of the milestone, noting that “bringing our storied past back to The Palestra while facing Richmond and St. Bonaventure underscores the program’s enduring legacy in Philadelphia’s basketball landscape.”
Beyond the games themselves, the anniversary events aim to highlight the cultural and community impact of college basketball in University City. Local schools, alumni groups, and basketball enthusiasts are expected to gather at The Palestra, reinforcing the arena’s role as a gathering place for generations of fans.
