Among the returning standouts, Hailey Longwell has emerged as a focal point after a redshirt freshman year that saw her net six goals in just 906 minutes at Duquesne. Now settled in Wilmington, Longwell has already doubled her career tally, finding the back of the net twice in her first two appearances for UNCW, including a strike that arrived just 73 seconds into a match against Western Carolina.
New Faces Making Immediate Impact
Joining her is Caigan Leonard, a transfer from Saint Louis who arrived with a modest two‑season résumé but has quickly made her presence felt. Leonard’s early impact was highlighted by a goal in the same game that saw Longwell’s breakthrough, a moment that not only gave the team an early lead but also doubled her own career goal count.
The early schedule has produced a 3‑0‑1 record, with victories over Appalachian State, Western Carolina and Old Dominion, plus a hard‑fought draw at Georgia Southern. In those four outings the team has already tallied a series of game‑winning goals, underscoring a balanced attack that spreads the scoring load across multiple contributors.
Beyond Longwell and Leonard, the squad benefits from the experience of players such as Kayla Adams, Ayanna Parker, Allie Planeaux, Ava Vaughan and Reese Bodas, each of whom posted double‑digit point totals in the previous season. Their continuity, combined with the fresh infusion of talent, has allowed Coach Neal to build on last year’s foundation without the need for a full roster overhaul.
