The Medomak Valley Panthers are entering a season of transition after a playoff run that saw many starters depart, leaving a young roster built around returning reserves, freshmen and new recruits.
A Young Roster Faces Immediate Challenges
A scrimmage against Skowhegan on Aug. 22 revealed both promise and areas needing improvement, as the team scored three touchdowns while allowing three. Freshman Nathan Day made a notable impact, breaking tackles and sprinting for a long touchdown run.
Head coach Ryan Snell emphasizes athleticism and continuity, noting that only four starters return from last year’s squad. The schedule is stacked with Class C semifinalists in the first five weeks, including matchups against Greely, Oceanside and Turner.
Key Players and Leadership
Quarterback Will Trainor, who missed much of the previous season with an injury, is expected to have a breakout year, while running back Jaydiin Ruiz, healthy after a hand injury, returns to full strength. Captains Josh Martz, Liam Feeley and Ruiz will provide guidance alongside returning seniors Max McCabe, Keith Miller and Jacob Payne.
The season opener is set for Sept. 4 against Leavitt, a game that will test the Panthers’ offensive aggression and defensive adjustments as they look to climb back into playoff contention.
