Scott Gyimesi Named D3CA Region I Men’s Student-Athlete of the Year

A Tufts graduate's dual excellence in academics and athletics earns top regional honor

Scott Gyimesi, a Tufts University graduate, has been named the 2026 D3CA Region I Men's Student-Athlete of the Year, an honor that highlights his exceptional performance in athletics, academics and leadership. The selection came after he represented Tufts and the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in a regional competition and advanced to the national ballot for the Division III Commissioners Association award.

A Dual Commitment to Excellence

During his senior season he led the NESCAC in rebounding, averaging 9.1 boards per game and posting 15 double-doubles, which earned him NABC Division III All-America First Team honors and the 2026 NESCAC Player of the Year award. He also earned two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-America recognition and three-time NESCAC All-Academic Team membership.

Academically, Gyimesi graduated summa cum laude with a 3.90 grade point average in economics and complemented his major with minors in finance, architectural studies and history. His scholarly achievements were noted alongside his athletic prowess, underscoring a commitment to both performance and service.

Beyond the hardwood, Gyimesi has contributed to his community through service initiatives, including organizing a charity basketball tournament for Team IMPACT, volunteering at the Boston Food Bank and serving as a Tufts Athletics Civic Life Ambassador. He also founded the Tufts Real Estate Group and worked as a Teaching Assistant for an Entrepreneurial Finance class.

His leadership helped Tufts reach its second NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearance in program history, a milestone achieved despite overcoming an ankle injury that threatened his senior campaign. The recognition reflects a career defined by resilience, excellence and a dedication to making a broader impact.
