Lamar Govain, a senior at Hutchinson High School, has been recognized as this week’s Athlete of the Week by Ad Astra Radio, an honor sponsored by Hutchinson Community College.
Season Highlights
During the McPherson Invitational, Govain helped the Salthawks pull off a dramatic 53‑51 upset over top‑seeded Topeka Seaman, pouring in 21 points in the first round.
In the semifinal, the team fell to Derby, but Govain contributed 14 points before the loss.
The consolation match against Blue Valley saw him finish with 15 points and a career‑high five blocks, even in a 44‑29 defeat.
Junior Season Overview
Govain’s junior year was nothing short of spectacular. He averaged 19.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot per game, numbers that earned him second‑team all‑AVCTL Division 1 honors and a spot on the all‑area team selected by Ad Astra Radio.
His defensive presence was especially notable, with five blocks in the third‑place game underscoring his impact on both ends of the floor.
