A strategic addition to the staff
Bridgeport Tusler has been added to the University of Northern Iowa’s women’s basketball coaching staff for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores the program’s commitment to deepening its talent pipeline.
He comes to UNI after a season as an assistant at Trevecca Nazarene University, where he helped shape a competitive roster and contributed to the program’s upward trajectory.
Tusler’s coaching résumé includes a head‑coaching tenure at Crown College, a stint leading the Monticello High School boys’ basketball team to a state tournament appearance, and an assistant role at Macalester College that culminated in the Scots’ first MIAC Conference Championship in fifteen years.
From player to mentor
Before entering the coaching ranks, Tusler distinguished himself as a collegiate player at Bethel University, where he was a four‑year starter, helped the Royals capture the 2016‑17 MIAC Championship, and earned three‑time All‑MIAC honors, including a place on the All‑Defensive Team.
His early development also included a standout multi‑sport career at Osseo High School, where he was a starting point guard on the 2012 Minnesota Class 4A State Championship basketball team and was recognized as Mr. Football, AP Player of the Year, and Metro Player of the Year in football.
Off the court, Tusler is married to former UNI women’s basketball star Angie Tusler (née Davison), with whom he shares two sons, Phenix and Treasure, creating a personal connection to the university community.
The hiring reflects a strategic blend of playing experience, defensive acumen, and developmental leadership that the program hopes will translate into continued growth on the court.
