Nathaniel Staehling, a former North Dakota State linebacker, made the move to the University of Michigan in pursuit of his NFL aspirations.
A New Chapter in Ann Arbor
During his high school years he played quarterback, running back, safety, kicker and punter before honing his craft at linebacker in college, where he posted 75 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season.
A shoulder injury delayed his arrival, causing him to miss spring practices, but he quickly adapted during fall camp, describing his first session as feeling like “riding a bike.”
Coaches and teammates welcomed him warmly, creating an environment that made his transition smoother, and the program’s support has been a major factor in his confidence.
Entering the 2026 season, Staehling is slated to see significant snaps, with many expecting him to compete for a starting role. His first appearance is scheduled for September 5 against Western Michigan at Michigan Stadium, famously known as “The Big House.”
Reflecting on his decision, Staehling called his Michigan experience “great” and expressed satisfaction with the team’s encouragement, underscoring his optimism about the road ahead.
