A compact soccer pitch has been installed at Harrison High School in New Jersey, creating a permanent recreational space that traces its roots to the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.
A Community Legacy in Harrison
The project, completed at no cost to the municipality, was realized through a collaboration among Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), the NYNJ Host Committee and the U.S. Soccer Foundation. The installation reflects a broader initiative to broaden soccer access across the region.
The facility was officially inaugurated on August 27, 2024, with a ceremonial first kick that featured members of the school’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams. The opening marked the transition from concept to a tangible asset for physical education and youth sport.
Sara Pena, a senior executive at PSEG, emphasized the company’s longstanding dedication to community enrichment, stating that the pitch exemplifies efforts to provide recreation and wellness opportunities for local families.
Alex Lasry, chief executive of the NYNJ Host Committee, highlighted the enduring impact of the venue, noting that it aligns with the vision of leveraging the World Cup’s momentum to inspire future athletes and community leaders.
Dr. Maureen Kroog, superintendent of Harrison Public Schools, described the pitch as a valuable resource that will support student‑athletes and enhance physical education curricula across the district.
Mayor James Fife of Harrison praised the partnership among local stakeholders, including PSEG, FIFA and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, calling the installation a testament to what can be achieved through coordinated community investment.
The U.S. Soccer Foundation affirmed that the new space offers children a safe environment to play, stay active and build confidence through sport, reinforcing the organization’s mission to grow the game.
Beyond Harrison, the initiative is part of a regional strategy to replicate similar mini pitches in other neighborhoods, ensuring that the excitement generated by the 2026 World Cup translates into lasting access to soccer facilities for generations to come.
