The 2026 Columbia men's soccer campaign officially begins on Friday evening, when the Lions host Army West Point at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium, part of the Baker Athletics Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the atmosphere will be heightened by a special tribute to the late Rocco B. Commisso, whose legacy continues to shape the program.
Honoring a Legacy
Commisso, a standout player and Ivy League honoree who later built a successful business career, passed away earlier this year. In recognition of his contributions, the team will wear a commemorative patch bearing his initials, 'RBC', on their kits for the entire season.
Leading the side are three senior captains — Jackson ten Oever, Jack McDaid, and Joe McDaid — who bring a blend of on‑field experience and academic distinction. Ten Oever, an All‑Ivy League Honorable Mention, has earned two CSC Academic All‑District nods, while McDaid secured Second Team All‑Ivy League honors in 2025 after contributing three goals and two assists.
The incoming 2026 class adds depth across every position, with two goalkeepers, two defenders, two midfielders and two forwards joining the roster. Head coach Michael Casper, now in his second year, is eager to build on Columbia’s recent successes, including victories over Harvard and tightly contested matches against Cornell and Princeton.
Historically, Columbia holds a 9‑7‑4 edge in the 21 meetings with Army West Point, the most recent ending in a 2‑2 draw. Army enters the match with a neutral 0‑0‑2 record after drawing with Air Force and Akron, setting the stage for a competitive opener.
Beyond the opening fixture, the Lions aim to extend their storied program, which boasts 79 varsity seasons, ten Ivy League titles and 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. With a blend of seasoned leadership and fresh talent, the 2026 squad looks poised to contend for another successful campaign.
