Head coach Greg Cane, now in his 32nd year at the helm, enters the campaign after celebrating his 300th career victory last season, a milestone he reached in a win over the University of Sioux Falls.
The Bulldogs will field a 32‑player roster that blends nine newcomers with a core of experienced veterans, including returning standouts Kati Beavers, Jessica Eischens and Nora Helvig.
Beavers contributed four goals, four assists and eight points last season, while Eischens posted two goals, six assists and ten points, and Helvig added two goals and two assists for a total of six points.
Also returning are Gwendolyn Lilly and Kaycee Chavez, who provide depth on the attacking front, and new goalkeeper Jordin Flohaug, who is expected to bring fresh energy between the posts.
Coach Cane emphasized that the team’s focus is on building momentum early, noting that the program has a tradition of opening against Michigan opponents and that the Bulldogs are aiming for back‑to‑back wins against both Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan.
Historically, UMD holds a 17‑8‑4 record against Northern Michigan and a 2‑4‑1 mark against Michigan Tech over seven all‑time meetings, giving the team a favorable backdrop as they look to extend that success.
The coaching staff hopes the early games will not only secure a strong start but also help integrate the new players into the squad’s chemistry before conference play begins.
