Longwood Women’s Soccer Secures 1-0 Win Over VMI in Defensive Battle

Bailey Altizer's second-half strike extends the Lancers' unbeaten streak against the Keydets

The Longwood women's soccer squad continued its dominance over VMI on Thursday, edging the Keydets 1-0 in a tightly contested non‑conference clash at Patchin Field.

A decisive moment in the second half

Altizer found the net in the 51st minute, converting a pass from Olson that slipped past VMI's keeper Maren Ryberg, who made seven saves throughout the match.

Longwood outshot VMI 16‑12 and generated eight shots on target, while freshman goalkeeper Brynn Clagett contributed a single save in the 90th minute to preserve the clean sheet.

Head coach Todd Dyer praised the effort, calling it a 'gutsy win' and noting that the team still has room to sharpen its attacking rhythm before their next showdown with East Tennessee State, scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
