Cal Poly’s football program is set to make history as it hosts its first nationally televised home game against the University of Idaho, a milestone that will be broadcast live on ESPN at 7:05 p.m.

The matchup will not only showcase the Mustangs’ rising competitiveness but also introduce viewers to the brand‑new $45 million John Madden Center, a state‑of‑the‑art facility that opened its doors in June and now serves as the centerpiece of the campus’s athletic hub.
Athletic Director Carter Henderson emphasized that the game is a gateway for a new audience to experience Cal Poly’s football culture, while also honoring the legacy of the late John Madden, after whom the center is named and whose jersey number 74 will be retired during halftime.
Linebacker Mikey D’Amato, eager to challenge the perception that California football is soft, said the team hopes to prove the program’s mettle on a national stage, aiming to shift the narrative toward a more physical, relentless style of play.
Fan Experience and Incentives
The first wave of fans arriving at the stadium will receive complimentary merchandise, and a tuition raffle will give attendees a chance to win a full year of tuition, adding a celebratory element to the historic occasion.
Student attendance is made free through the Poly Card, and the production will feature a full ESPN crew, underscoring the network’s confidence in the program’s potential.
