The Villanova University field hockey program is set to launch its 2026 season with a pair of road games that will test its depth and experience.
A revived rivalry on the road
After finishing the previous campaign with a 5‑13 record, the Wildcats secured a berth in the BIG EAST playoffs, falling only in the semifinals to Liberty. Head coach Joanie Milhous will guide a squad that returns 16 of its 25 players, among them top scorers Colleen Finnan, Gemma Lysaght, Addie Froehlich, Erin Mitchall and Ava Borkowski.
Borkowski, who earned BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year honors, leads a group that also includes Finnan, who contributed heavily in the 2025 season. Their presence gives the team a blend of youthful energy and seasoned firepower as they head into the new schedule.
Facing Delaware for the first time since 2023
The Wildcats will meet Delaware for the 49th all‑time meeting, a milestone that underscores the longevity of the series. Villanova holds a 39‑8‑1 record against La Salle and aims to capture its first victory over Delaware in regular‑season play since 2023. Delaware, coming off a 7‑11 season that culminated in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship, will look to reverse the historical trend.
La Salle, also 7‑11 last year, missed the Atlantic 10 playoffs but will be eager to prove its mettle against a Villanova team that has dominated their recent encounters. The upcoming matchups mark the fourth straight season the two programs have met, with Sunday’s contest representing the 49th overall meeting.

With the season still in its infancy, every early result could shape the team’s confidence and momentum heading into conference play.
